Welcome the Social Coyote!

The people we see most often are usually the ones we become the closest with.

Not necessarily the people we have the most alignment with.

Consider the person I met at an Easter egg hunt yesterday who had perfect alignment with my interests. If I don’t put the effort in to see them again, the relationship will never form. There’s a little work for me to do.

In fact, I have a better chance of forming a stronger, closer relationship with my barista, because I see them every day.

Which is cool! I really like Rachel, and we’re pretty good friends now.

But the point is, frequency is really important, and heading out of our caves for an occasional event might not be enough for building a strong personal pack.

One strategy is to explore a few events until we find our “people,” or a community that clicks with our interests, and then spend real time getting to know that group.

That said, we should never discount the magic of serendipity along the way.

But to build strong connections, we need a few things: time and repetition, a little vulnerability, and enough frequency to really get to know each other.

I met Nick a while back, before he launched avianu., through a mutual friend who said, “You two need to connect. Nick’s basically running the Social Coyote, but for bands and music venues in San Diego.”

We got to know each other over newsletters, growth strategies and San Diego events.

He told me that he was launching something new on the Founder's Hike, and said it was called avianu. I remember mispronouncing it on the spot. No surprise there, I’m not exactly known for nailing names on the first try.

Since then, I’ve seen his business take off. He brings senior-level design to growing teams without the hiring drama. The work is excellent, and the model is as thoughtful as the design.

I’m fired up to be teaming up with Nick as a Pack Partner. You should give him a howl for 2 reason: to surf and to level up your design.
