I love seeing our community get more connected! That’s why we do this. But it doesn’t always have to start at events.

I sometimes schedule connections just before an event begins. There are obvious efficiency gains, but that’s not the main reason I do it. We can walk into the event together and already guarantee 1 familiar face.

Plus, being warmed up has some real benefits, it creates an opportunity that welcomes new conversations to come to you. Simple things can do this: a smile, confident body posture, a hilarious hat (Google peacocking), or just feeling comfortable talking to the friend you walked in with.

I was insanely proud to see a small group use the Digital Den to coordinate before Hack Your Heart Out last week. A few of them even won the hackathon! The main reason was hustle, but getting to know each other in advance might have helped.

The point is, we don’t have to start from scratch at every event. Connections become easier when we step out of the den consistently, start recognizing familiar faces, and plan to meet up with others ahead of time.
