We Started an Event!

You know what they say: you can learn by reading books and watching videos, but until you do it yourself, you don’t really learn. With that in mind, we threw together a last-minute event to fill the gaps during a slower Valentine’s Day week.

Ready for a little irony? I’m not the biggest fan of being the center of attention. Please don’t throw me a big birthday party. I had used that excuse to avoid organizing events. Well…

I noticed a gap in our community. We have a lot of people working solo!

There’s a theory that with the rise of AI, even more people will go solo. Great for builders. Not so great for connection.

Then there’s another group that overlaps but faces a different kind of isolation: remote workers.

Okay, neat. So what happened? Like true experienced planners, we put the event out one day in advance on a Monday for a Tuesday meetup. Click data shows that people like to plan the week of, so maybe we weren’t completely unhinged.

Turns out, 12 spots filled up fast (our original cap), so we expanded to 20. In the end, 14 people showed up. We even got a request to host another one in OC. Sorry, we’re SD-focused, but still a cool data point.

All this to say: there are plenty of gaps out there, and it doesn’t take something huge to make an impact. If you’ve got an idea, let’s chat.

One last yip: something came out from last week’s Social Coyote. There’s now talk about a North County Founders Mixer happening a little further south. Hussein found a need and filled it, and plenty of others would love to see that event expand. So stay tuned.
