🐺 8 Awesome Events and a One-Liner Strategy
The San Diego happenings you should know about
Howl yeah it’s Monday!
A mighty “ahwoo” to this week’s pack partner.
Thanks Matt for supporting the Social Coyote!

To continue the theme of experimentation, I spent most of my time at TechCon refining my one-liner. This is something I’ve been notoriously bad at.
It’s supposed to be quick and simple, to open the door to a follow-up question (assuming they’re interested). This is hard. Very hard. We usually have so much to say about what we do that compressing it into one sentence feels nearly impossible.
I’ve realized the trick isn’t to perfect it at home. I’ve tried, but once I memorize a line, it comes out like a robot pressing play on a tape recorder. Wrrrrrr… and they fall asleep.
Not that a little rehearsing isn’t important, but I want it to feel natural, smooth, and cooler than a coyote on the beach wearing sunglasses and sipping a lemonade. The only way to achieve this is to get into a room full of people, bring your 90%-refined one-liner, and take it for a test drive.
This isn’t the first time I’ve done this exercise, but I will say I’ve improved a lot, thanks to TechCon! There were so many new people to chat with that I got plenty of reps.
This is one of the great benefits of leaving the den and engaging with others. People give you verbal feedback, sure, but there’s also a wealth of non-verbal cues. I can safely say I didn’t put a single person to sleep.
I’ve talked before about not jumping into what you do right away. It’s usually better to wait for a natural gap. But if you’re eager, you might try leading with, “Hey, can I get your feedback on my one-liner?” It feels less like a pitch and opens the door to a different kind of conversation.
Just keep getting out there, sharing your value with others, and making connections. Great things will happen.
Howl yeah!
