Together with:

We’re BACK and only slightly sunburned. Surprisingly, I thought this fur would provide more sun protection. Lessons were learned.

I hope you had many moments to unplug, think deeply about nagging problems, and perhaps solved them during a float in the ocean. Did you write the solution down? Business idea: waterproof pencil and paper for ideas that manifest during a surf!

I can admit when I’ve made a mistake. I created the premium section of the newsletter to add more value and support all the work that goes into creating the Social Coyote each week.

And then I branded it as wonderfully as a “Wet Coyote.” I growl at myself every time I look at it.

I spent the weekend rethinking (and writing down my ideas), and I’m pleased to announce that Premium Pack (grrrowl) is now Super Coyote (howl yeah!) with fresh superpowers like looking deep into the future and using our nose to find powerful pack data!

The last thing I’ll add, because we need to get to the events, is that there is no subscription fee. It’s a “pay what it’s worth to you” model. You pick the price, not me.

Why am I sharing all this?

One of the Social Coyote goals is to build in public. We can appreciate what we’ve done together, admit defeat when necessary, and continue on our quest to help the pack leave our dens and get plugged into our tech and entrepreneurship community.

Now let’s get out there and meet someone new this week!

Here are all the San Diego events that should be on your radar this week:

🐺 Tuesday July 9

🐺 Thursday July 11

🐺 Friday July 12

  • SD Founders Hike at 6:30 AM - [Torrey Pines] … this is one of my favorite ways to start a Friday!

Helpful Advice from Friend of the Pack:
Rose Bowlus Law

I’m over here “ahwoo’ing” (legally, I think) and I thought it wise to ask Rose if she had any thoughts for founders like us. Here are a few of her key recommendations:

Pick the right lawyer, not just the law firm:

  • Focus on their experience and expertise, not just the law firm’s reputation.

  • Prefer lawyers who’ve run businesses or invested in startups. They’d likely know exactly what you really need.

  • Entrepreneurial experience is especially helpful if your company is fundraising. These lawyers may have raised funds themselves or have written investment checks.

Be clear and understand your legal needs:

  • Meet mentors and advisors who’ve been through the startup and fundraising process to narrow down your company’s legal needs.

  • Be prepared and specific with your legal requests for info and deliverables.

  • Be aware that deferred legal fees may end up costing you more in the end. You may also be giving a security interest in your IP! Read the terms of your engagement letter.

If you need advice on “howling”, I’m your guy, but I’d prefer you chat with Rose and her team at Rose Bowlus Law for legal support.

Here’s what we can get excited about next week:

🐺 Monday July 15

🐺 Tuesday July 16
