The term recently came up during a conversation at Coyote Coffee, and I had to look it up:
“relating to or denoting behavior which is positive, helpful, and intended to promote social acceptance and friendship”
We can apply this concept to our mission of making connections by using some or all of several elements:
Genuine interest
Curiosity-driven follow-up questions
Details from our personal experience that might involve risk-taking and vulnerability
Desire to help
If we successfully juggle these elements, we’ll be better equipped to connect with individuals within our community who could benefit from knowing each other.
By putting prosocial intentions behind making connections, we increase our individual reach, expand our circle, and more intricately connect our community, among many other very positive outcomes.
Before we dig into next week’s events, I have a favor to ask you.
Each week, I spend several hours gathering and curating this events list for free. It would fill me with “howl yeah” energy if you could share The Social Coyote with just 1 person who you think would benefit from being more connected in San Diego.
