San Diego Startup Week is coming up (October 6 – 10), and as usual, it’s spread across the city from Carlsbad to Tijuana. I’ll be at SDSU on Day 3. If you’re around, give me a howl.

They’re trying something new this year: mini-events woven into the main conference. Some are casual meetups before the festivities (Hussein’s Startup Mixer in Carlsbad), others are full-blown side conferences (Andy’s Seed Strapping Mini Conference at UCSD).

And honestly, some of the best events we’ve been to in San Diego have been tied to major gatherings: either pre- or post. The community is already mobilized, and side organizers give people a fun place to ramp up or wind down.

We’re big supporters of building around bigger moments. The main goal, as always, is to encourage people to leave their dens and get into the community.

I hope to see you in the wild at San Diego Startup Week.
