🐺 Sept 11 - Hungry For Tech Events?

Here's what should be on your radar in San Diego

How do we define an excellent event? Is it the venue, the people, the drinks or snacks. Is it something else? Does it need to be well produced or can it be quite simple?

Many times it’s in the eye of beholder. The individual goal, the mission or quest. But I’d say, if an acceptable outcome is to simply meet and get to know someone new, then any event has the potential to be great.

I recently attended one that checked many boxes for me. Did it have drinks? No. Coffee? No. Were there business cards exchanged? Not here.

This event was as simple as they come. It was Neal’s Founders Hike at Torrey Pines. It should be on your list, assuming you’re an early riser. We met at 6:30am with a simple beginning: a 1 line intro from each hiker. The mood was primed and we were prepared to connect with someone who sparked our interest as we began to climb the mountain.

A number of things worked well for me, and I assume many others as it was well attended. It was the variety; there was an activity; it came on a Friday; and no doubt there was the bond over sweat. We saw an osprey, dolphins, and maybe a shark?

The point I’m trying to make here is that we don’t need to over think it. The goals for any event, as I see them, should be the same: bring curiosity, spark an interesting conversation, make a new connection and perhaps take a break from the routine.
