Welcome to the free version of the Social Coyote!

Together with our friend Kathy at Azul PR

Itโ€™s an absolute thrill to meet the pack in the wild.

Itโ€™s an even greater thrill when someone says โ€œthe reason Iโ€™m here is because of the Social Coyote.โ€

What a feeling. I get energized. Iโ€™m literally howlin' with gratitude!

But the real โ€œHowl yeahsโ€ shouldnโ€™t go only to me. They need to be shared with the event hosts. The ones doing all the behind the scenes work to get us all together.

I mean, would you read a newsletter with just AI coyotes and pack puns? Maybe.

And itโ€™s not just major events that deserve our paws (we all know those take a ton of work). Itโ€™s the organizers who dream up an event and put it out there, unsure if the community will join.

Theyโ€™re taking a risk on an idea, building a Startup Beach page and just hoping people will show. Itโ€™s not easy.

Letโ€™s thank our amazing hosts this week. Theyโ€™ve created something out of thin air and it brought more of us together.

Howl yeah!

Hereโ€™s what you should know about this week:

๐Ÿบ Monday September 30

๐Ÿบ Tuesday October 1

๐Ÿบ Wednesday October 2

๐Ÿบ Thursday October 3

๐Ÿบ Friday October 4

๐Ÿบ Saturday October 5

Iโ€™m no PR expert, but I once had a friend who created a DIY PR course before courses became super popular. I always thought he should run his PR playbook on his PR business. Anyways.

I admitted to not being a PR expert just seconds ago, but we do have one in the pack who can teach us.ย

Meet Kathy! You might have encountered her at Startup Week, Hussein's Happy Hours or recently at Innovation Day. I was curious what tactics I could use as a smaller brandโ€”after all, the Coyote is a one-howl show.

Hereโ€™s some advice she shared with me:

  • Purpose First: Before drafting any content, understand your goals. Are you aiming to generate leads, build awareness for a new product, establish credibility, or attract investors or talent? Start with your objective.

  • Target Audience: Consider who youโ€™re trying to reach. Instead of aiming for broad exposure like the New York Times, think about whether your audience actually reads the NYT. Perhaps a local trade publication, local newspaper, or industry podcast would be more effective.

  • Owned Before Earned: Focus on โ€œownedโ€ media before โ€œearnedโ€ media. Create content on platforms you control, such as your company blog and LinkedIn page. This establishes your voice and makes it easier for reporters to understand what you offer.

Kathy has an excellent free guide to get us PR ready and make sure to connect with her on LinkedIn or catch her prowling around SD.

Remember, DIY is an excellent way to learn a new skill, but if youโ€™re busy like me, consider connecting with a pro.

Thanks Kathy!

Hereโ€™s what we can plan ahead for next week:

๐Ÿบ Tuesday October 8

๐Ÿบ Thursday October 10

๐Ÿบ Saturday October 12

"Just listened to this week's podcast - loving the insight and context into the upcoming events, really helps in figuring out what to attend. Kudos for all you do!"
