🐺 [social] The SD advantage no one talks about

The San Diego events you should know about to get connected!

Welcome, Social Coyote!

I was recently on an airplane and spent some time chatting with the flight attendants.

I love asking where they’re based and then living vicariously through them. What a life! I’ve never lived their adventure, so I can only speak from my imagination and the short conversations while accepting cups of coffee.

This particular crew was San Diego-based, and they said, “We love San Diego passengers! They’re always so chill!” Taking the compliment and my coffee, I agreed.

But it did get me thinking about our energy, our approach to building, networking, connecting, and how we, as a city, are put together.

This is one of our superpowers.

For fear of going too long, I’ll add only one more point. I asked our community on LinkedIn if our humility was holding us back.

The resounding response was: we should be embracing who we are, building the way San Diegans do, and quit comparing ourselves to other cities.

Hard not to agree with this! There’s a story about why racehorses wear blinders. The short version is this: if the horse focuses on the horse to the left or right, it will end up tripping.

We have diverse skills, values, and intentions, and it is this that makes our wonderful city and tech community so special.

We’re humble, even though we build great things here, and we have an energy that should be appreciated.

I certainly appreciate it, and this is why it’s so much fun to get connected in San Diego.
