I helped a friend land a job through an intro recently. He did all the real work: connecting with the company, building the relationship, and making sure it was the right fit.

I met the company through email. They were exploring ways to organize an event around their niche here in San Diego, and I suggested they connect with my friend. Serendipity at play.

That simple door-opening moment is what gets me most fired up about writing this newsletter and connecting San Diego. It’s why we keep howling week after week.

It reminds me of a comment Neal left on a post recently, where I highlighted a few folks in San Diego who are doing cool things.

He said something that stuck with me:

“If we want to level up as an ecosystem, we need to get better at being intentional connectors… And we need to scale that skill — not just a few of us doing it manually, but empowering many more to do it thoughtfully and efficiently.”

The main takeaway is simple: we all need to help each other connect, too.

When I called my friend to congratulate him on the new role, he asked if there was anything he could do. I told him just one thing:

Connect two other people in our community, and keep paying it forward.

I caught up with Rose yesterday for a long San Diego ecosystem chat. One thing that kept coming up was how much we appreciate the people building in this city.

It’s part of why Rose and her team get so excited about supporting the San Diego startup scene. They’re helping to power: the Coyote, Eventship, and a few other projects across town.

I asked her what we should share with the pack this week. Rose smiled and said that there are many great law firms in San Diego. She just wanted founders to know what makes RBL successful: a smaller, more personal approach for teams who value that type of connection.
