Howl Yeah It’s Monday!
I’m reading a book about gathering and how to throw a great party. There’s a concept in the book called Ichi-go Ichi-e. It roughly translates to: one time, one meeting.
The idea is simple. This moment won’t exist again in quite the same way. Even if it’s a recurring event. Even if the Eventship page looks identical to the last one. Even if it’s the “same” coffee meetup.
That meetup you’ve been to five times? It looks identical on the event page. It’s not.
Different mix of people.
Different energy.
And you’re different too.
You’ve learned something since last week. You’ve met someone new. You’ve made progress, or hit a wall, or changed your mind about something.
So the room changes. Which makes showing up feel a little more important. Because this exact version of you meeting this exact version of them? It won’t happen again.
Recurring events aren’t repetition. They’re evolution. And if we keep showing up, we don’t just get more connected. We grow alongside the room.
That feels very San Diego to me.
