Welcome, Social Coyote!

Do you run experiments when you head out to events?

This could be testing a one-liner or a new company name.

I run experiments all the time. Here’s one that really stuck with to me.

A while back I decided to test a new title I was workshopping: Dad.

I do have a little one (some of you have met her at Founders hikes) and we hang out a few days per week as part of our daycare plan. So pretty authentic.

This felt like a great opportunity for an experiment. When I met new people in the wild, I tested one of two approaches to the question: What do you do outside of the Social Coyote?

• I answered with enthusiasm, “I’m a dad!” and watched the reaction.

• I answered with sheepish tone “I’m a dad..” and watch the reaction.

You’d be surprised how many people reflected my energy back at me. I was learning that it might not be about what I said, but how I said it.

Because our energy can be infectious, and it often creates an aura that pulls us toward positive conversations with others.

Sometimes the only way to prove it is to run an experiment.
