this was not the bookstore

So I’m standing in this bookstore in North Park paging through biographies. I find this one on Benjamin Franklin. In the introduction, there is a phenomenal quote about action that I have to share:

Seneca: Longa est vita, si plena est. A life is long if it is full; but the man who has lived eighty years in idleness has not lived at all, he has simply been a long time in dying.

There went my weekend thinking about this passage and what we’re doing here, what we’re gathering and sharing, and perhaps why this newsletter exists.

Franklin was one of the greatest connectors of all time. He turned a weekly gathering of tradesmen, he called it the Junto, into America's first lending library, a volunteer fire company, and a good chunk of civic Philadelphia. That's the full life Seneca meant.

This isn't a fair comparison. He was a legend, and we have a few newsletters. But if you’re newer to the Coyote, we’re all about connecting San Diego. Sometimes that’s through events. Other times it's discovering the companies building here and the people behind them.

This isn't every event in San Diego, it’s the ones I think are worth leaving your den for, because of their organizers, topics, communities, or their history here.

Admittedly it’s just one coyote’s opinion. But if we execute it well, you’ll be able to find the people who interest you and help you on your current quest, and feel more connected to our city.

We’re not sitting here in idleness. We’re searching the best city on Earth, San Diego, together for ways to get more connected as we chase our next milestones.

Into the Den 🎙🐺

I've been following Hussein building Eventship, and I still didn't know the entire story until heading into Hussein's den.

Many of us have used his platform to host our communities, but the story behind it and where it came from is pretty funny, and not quite as intentional as it seems.

There's a funny moment in the middle where we talk about how everyone thought we were competitors, but we never saw it that way.

We both just took very different roads to getting people out of their dens (my word, not his) and into the San Diego community.

Here’s the latest Into the Den episode: Hussein Yahfoufi - Eventship

That’s enough howling out of me.

See you in the wild!
